Expected Student Outcomes:
Students in our group are exposed to cutting-edge, exciting laser-based spectroscopic techniques as well as the application of theory to understand the experimental results. There will be ample opportunity to work on ultrafast laser techniques and learn how such experiments can be applied to address fundamental questions in physical, biophysical, and organic chemistry, as well as biology. Expertise will also be acquired in conventional spectroscopic techniques (such as FT-IR, UV/VIS, Fluorescence, and NMR) and chemical characterization methods (HPLC, Mass Spectrometry, FPLC, and GC). Students will have some hands-on experience in chemical synthesis and molecular biology. Hands-on exposure to molecular dynamics simulations and DFT calculations will be gained, allowing for the comparison of experimental data and an understanding of molecular processes at the atomic level.
